Fingersmith
This wildly entertaining 3-hour BBC mini-series tells the story of two young women who fall in love while plotting their share of an old man’s fortune in Victorian London. Plucky orphan Sue (played by the delicious Sally Hawkins) is the pick-pocket who seduces wealthy heiress Maud (the lovely Elaine Cassidy). Adapted from Sarah “Tipping the Velvet” Waters’s most acclaimed novel, Fingersmith is full of twists and turns and rollicking melodrama.
This rousing adaptation also stars Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake) and Charles Dance (The Jewel in the Crown).
